Forum envy and the highlight reel
A forum is a place full of screenshots. Big winning days, tidy equity curves, a streak of green. Almost nobody posts the Tuesday when ten trades went wrong in a row.
Scrolling through that feed produces comparison. The mind judges its own messy reality against someone else's best moments. The result is pressure to trade more, to risk more, or to switch to whatever method the latest star claims to use.
Strategy hopping is the most common outcome. A system gets two weeks of a normal drawdown, a forum post shows someone else making money with a different approach, and the first system is abandoned just before it would have recovered.
A few habits help. Treat any posted result as a sample from the best days. Ask for the full record, including losing months. Keep a log of one's own numbers and compare progress only against that.
Healthy forums do the reverse: they make losing days visible and discuss them without shame.
What would change in this community if the losing days were posted as often as the winning ones?
