15 minute levels vs 1 minute levels for scalp entries

Post by Shadow Trader »

Option A: levels from the 1-minute chart. Plenty of them, always close, easy to see small swings. Option B: levels from the 15-minute, hourly or daily chart. Fewer, further apart, much less clutter.

The case for A is that it's where the trade lives. A 5-pip target needs a nearby reference, and a 1-minute swing high is right there.

The case for B is that a 1-minute swing high is a few candles of data. Hundreds form every day, most mean nothing, and lots of traders mark the same ones, so stops pile up behind them. Higher-timeframe highs and lows come from longer stretches of trading, more participants can see them, and slower accounts often leave orders there. Reactions at those levels tend to be larger and cleaner, though "tend" is doing some work.

The trade-off is that B gives fewer setups. Hours can pass with nothing near a daily level, and the temptation is to drop down and trade noise anyway.

A middle route some use: mark the higher-timeframe levels and only take 1-minute triggers when price is sitting at one. Entries stay precise and the context stays broad.

Which one do you trust more, and how far does price have to be from a higher-timeframe level before it stops mattering to you?
