Why the first trade of the day decides the second

A first trade that wins builds confidence. One that loses creates caution or irritation. Either way, the state of mind from the first trade carries into the second.

Sequences of decisions are not independent in the human brain. A win loosens standards. A loss tightens them or provokes recklessness.

Looking at logs, many scalpers find that their second trade has a different quality depending on the first. The data shows that the day's results are often driven by this chain.

Some address it by treating the first trade as a throwaway: very small size, just to get through the emotional start.

Others add a pause after each trade, long enough to reset.

There is evidence for this in more than trading. Decision research describes carry-over effects between consecutive choices, where the outcome of one shifts the standards applied to the next. The effect is mild per decision and large over a session. Trading simply compresses the sequence into a short window and attaches a monetary score to each step.

Does the result of the first trade of the day correlate with the quality of the second in the log?
