Rollover time shifts with daylight saving, and some brokers forget

Post by Shadow Trader »

Most brokers run their daily rollover at 5pm New York time. Because the United States and other regions change their clocks on different dates, the rollover moves relative to London and Tokyo time for a few weeks each spring and autumn.

Some brokers adjust their server time to follow, others do not, and a few apply the change late. The result is that the rollover spread, swap calculation, and daily candle boundaries shift by an hour compared with what traders expect.

Strategies with fixed time rules, such as avoiding trades during rollover, can fail during those weeks. A rule that excludes 22:00 to 22:30 server time protects the account only if the server time still matches the rollover.

The check is straightforward. Watch the spread on a major pair during the weeks of the clock changes, and note when it spikes. Adjust the time filter accordingly.

Keeping a simple calendar of the clock change dates for the main regions helps anticipate the problem.

Did your rollover window move during the last clock change, and did your filters adjust?
