Watching six pairs at once: the paralysis of too many charts

Post by Shadow Trader »

More charts can feel like more opportunity. Six or eight pairs on screen suggests that something will always be moving.

The cost is attention. Every additional pair divides focus, and the quality of each decision falls. Missed setups, late entries, and confusion about which position belongs to which chart become common.

There is also the problem of correlation. Trading several pairs against the dollar at once may amount to a single large bet disguised as several small ones.

A sensible limit depends on the person and strategy. Many scalpers find that two or three pairs are enough, and that deeper knowledge of those pairs beats shallow knowledge of many.

A test is to compare results in sessions where fewer pairs were watched against sessions with more. If the focused sessions are better, the data gives a reason to reduce the list.

How many pairs do you watch during a session, and has that number changed as you gained experience?
