Screenshot Evidence: Why a Profit Image Proves Almost Nothing

Post by Shadow Trader »

Screenshots of winning trades are the default marketing material of fake signal sellers because they are cheap to produce and nearly impossible to audit. Browser developer tools can rewrite the numbers shown on a web page in seconds, and image editors can do the same to a mobile capture. Even a perfectly unaltered image may come from a demo account, a single lucky position, or one of many accounts opened in the hope that at least one performs.

Selection is the quieter problem. A seller who posts only the best results each week leaves out every loss, and the audience never sees the denominator. Closed-trade history cropped to a favourable window, hidden deposits and withdrawals, and balances shown without the account's start date all distort the picture. Currency or account-type labels placed out of view may hide that the figures came from a cent account or a simulation.

Useful questions are simple. Does the image show the full history, the account number, the server name and the time stamps? Can the same results be matched to a live statement that the seller does not control? Is the seller willing to be measured over a period fixed in advance?

When the answer to such questions is evasion, the screenshot is better treated as advertising than as evidence.
