Edgewonk, Excel or Notion for a scalping journal?

Post by FXS London Scalper »

I've used all three over the last two years, so here's a comparison for anyone choosing.

Edgewonk
  • Plus: built for trading. Imports from MT4/MT5, ready statistics, tagging, and charts of mistakes.
  • Minus: paid, and the structure is fixed. For very custom metrics, it's limited.
Excel / Google Sheets
  • Plus: total flexibility. I can calculate cost per trade, R-multiples, session splits, anything.
  • Minus: everything has to be built. Imports need formatting. Screenshots don't fit naturally.
Notion
  • Plus: great for notes, screenshots, and reviews. A database per trade with linked weekly reviews works well.
  • Minus: weak for numbers. Formulas are clumsy, charts need workarounds.
What I use now: Excel for numbers (MT5 export, one sheet), Notion for review notes and screenshots of selected trades only, not every trade. Edgewonk I dropped because I spent more time adjusting tags than reviewing.

For a scalper with many trades, automatic import matters most. Typing 20 trades a day by hand is how journals die.

What do you use, and what made you stick with it?
