Requote, Reject, or Fill: Reading Execution Behaviour

Post by Shadow Trader »

Requotes and rejections look similar on the screen, yet they point to different execution mechanics. A requote offers a new price and asks for confirmation, while a rejection simply declines the order, often with a short message about price changes or off-quotes.

Both usually relate to how a liquidity provider handles last look, a short window in which the provider can accept or decline a trade after receiving it. During fast markets, price may move within that window, and the provider may choose not to honour the earlier quote.

For scalpers, the cost is not only the missed trade. A requote delays the entry by seconds, and by the time confirmation arrives the opportunity may have faded. Frequent rejections on one side, such as buys during rising price, suggest asymmetric handling that is worth documenting.

Terminal settings matter too. The maximum deviation setting on MetaTrader allows a fill within a stated range of the requested price, trading fewer requotes for more slippage. That is a trade-off, not a free fix. A simple log of rejected orders with timestamps and market conditions makes the pattern visible and gives concrete evidence when raising the issue with broker support.
