With minimum hold times, news restrictions and consistency rules, many prop firms seem to favour trades lasting several minutes rather than seconds.
Arguments that 5–15 minute trades suit prop:
- Above minimum hold time rules.
- Targets large enough to cover costs comfortably.
- Less sensitive to execution quality.
- Fewer trades, which means less exposure to daily loss limits from cumulative small losses.
Arguments against:
- Some setups only work on very short timeframes.
- Longer holds mean more exposure to random news.
- Fewer trades mean slower progress toward targets.
What "slow scalping" might look like:
- M5 setups with M1 entries.
- Targets 8–15 pips on EURUSD.
- Stops 5–8 pips.
- 2–5 trades per session.
For traders coming from ultra-short scalping, this is a significant change. But it may fit prop rules better.
