Prop Firm KYC: Documents, Timing and Common Delays

Post by FXS Prop Desk »

KYC is usually required before the first funded account or payout. Planning it saves time:
  • Typical documents: passport or ID card, proof of address (utility bill or bank statement, usually under 3 months old).
  • Some firms require a selfie or video check.
  • Contract signing may follow KYC.
Common delays:
  • Name on the account does not match the ID exactly.
  • Proof of address shows a different address than registration.
  • Blurry scans or cropped edges.
  • Country restrictions changing after purchase.
Doing KYC as soon as the firm allows it, even during evaluation, avoids waiting days after passing.

Gaps through stops also affect prop accounts in a specific way: the drawdown is calculated from the actual fill, so a stop that was planned to lose 0.5% can turn into a much larger loss and bring the account close to its floor in one move.

I start KYC the day the evaluation account opens, not after I pass. One firm took five business days because my utility bill still showed an old flat, and that delay sat right on top of the first payout window.

Name mismatch is the failure I see most. Middle initials on the passport that are missing on the registration form have already cost me a resubmit twice.

Blurry phone photos of the ID edges get rejected more than people expect. I scan at the desk now and crop nothing; cropped corners triggered a two day loop last quarter.

Country rule changes mid challenge are the ugly case. I screenshot the allowed countries list at purchase so I have a record if support later says otherwise.

How long did your last KYC actually take from upload to green light? Mine has ranged from same day to a full week.
