If your account is in EUR, GBP, CZK or another currency, pip values change with exchange rates. Using USD pip values directly leads to wrong risk calculations.
Example: EUR account trading EURUSD, 1 lot.
- Pip value in USD = $10.
- Converted to EUR at EURUSD 1.10 = about €9.09.
For crosses, the conversion is from the quote currency to the account currency. GBPJPY in a EUR account: the pip value is in JPY and must be converted to EUR at the current EURJPY rate.
Practical tips:
- Use a position-size calculator that reads the account currency and current rates.
- Recalculate when exchange rates move significantly.
- Remember that open profits and losses in other currencies change value as rates move.
