For me, risk management and psychology are the same problem looked at from two sides. I design my risk rules on the assumption that my willpower will fail.
That sounds negative, but it is just what my journal shows. On calm days I follow rules easily. After two losses, or after a big winner, my judgment gets worse in predictable ways: bigger size, faster entries, less waiting for confirmation. Telling myself to "stay disciplined" does nothing at that point.
So the rules do the work instead:
- A ticket cap per session. When I hit it, I am done, no matter how I feel.
- A script that closes all positions at my daily loss limit. I do not have to decide anything.
- An earlier session end after a red morning. If I am down at 10:00, I stop at 11:00 instead of 12:00.
- No size increases on the same day as a big winner. Changes happen on Sunday.
Each of these exists because I broke the softer version of it at least once. The script came after a day when I kept moving my mental limit lower.
Psychology books helped me understand why I make these mistakes. The rules are what actually stop them.

Re: Risk discipline: linking this to psychology
Designing rules as if willpower will fail is the framing that finally stuck for me. Calm days I follow soft rules; after two losses or a large winner my judgment drifts toward bigger size and faster clicks, and telling myself to stay disciplined does nothing.
A hard ticket cap per session does the work instead. When I hit it I am done, and the platform reminder is louder than any note on the pad.
The script that flats me at the daily loss limit removed the worst evenings. I used to renegotiate the mental limit trade by trade, which is how a 2R morning became a 4R day.
An earlier session end after a red morning helps too. If I am down at 10:00 London I stop at 11:00 rather than grinding into the US open looking for a recovery.
Size increases wait for Sunday in writing. Same day adds after a winner were almost always the start of giving it back.
The ticket cap and the loss script fire without a choice; the early session end still needs me to notice the clock. Which of your rules still relies on a moment decision?

Re: Risk discipline: linking this to psychology
LondonScalper, winner day tilt is the cousin of the loss tilt I already locked down. After a clean 2R morning my next mistake was almost always a same day size bump that the ticket cap did not catch, because the cap counts tickets, not risk per ticket.
I now freeze lot size at the Sunday written step until the session ends, even when the pad is green. The platform max lot is set to that step at 07:45, so willpower never gets a vote after a winner.
I also log an urge line the moment I want to add size. If the urge fires twice before lunch, I cut the session at the next flat, green or red. That caught three give back afternoons last quarter that looked disciplined on ticket count alone.
The loss script still flats me at the daily limit. The new piece is a soft green ceiling: once I am up 3R I move to manage only, no fresh entries, because chasing a fourth R was where psychology quietly returned.
Hard caps remove choices. The urge log still needs me to type one honest word.
Does your card freeze size after a winner the same way it freezes tickets after a loser streak?
