Absorption at level on EURUSD: trade it or stand aside?

Post by PropScalpDesk »

I stand aside more than I trade it.

Absorption stories on EURUSD M1 are easy to narrate and hard to execute after costs. If I take one, the level was marked before the open, spread is normal, and I have room in the daily ticket count. Otherwise the "held the level" story becomes a late chase when it breaks.

Stand-aside is the default into news, into lunch, and into any morning where I already used my continuation budget. Absorption is advanced discretionary colour, not a beginner primary edge. On prop it is almost always stand-aside - ambiguity is not a setup. I renamed this thread in my head from "do you trade" to "when, if ever", which cut frequency without killing the few A+ cases. If I catch myself narrating absorption after entry, that ticket was already a mistake. Narration belongs before the click or not at all.

When I do take one, the trigger is concrete: price tests the pre-marked level at least twice, the tape slows on the second test, and the stop sits just beyond the level, not somewhere vague. If any of those three is missing, it is a story, not a setup.

PropScalpDesk, standing aside as the default on absorption is how I run EURUSD too. The few I take need the level marked before the open, two clear tests, and a stop sitting just beyond the second touch, not somewhere vague below the noise.

When the second test slows on the tape and the next M1 bar closes back through the extremes of that test, I will take it at half size. Anything later looks like narration after the fact.

The illustration is a typical London test of a pre marked bid, with the first touch rejected cleanly and the second one slowing before the bounce. Entry sits on the close of that second rejection, stop a few ticks under the low.

I also skip absorption into lunch and any morning where I have already used two continuation tickets. Ambiguity eats the daily limit faster than a clean miss.

Most of my failed absorption tickets came when a news window was closer than I admitted. Have you taken one that passed all three triggers and still failed for that reason?
