News process: after a winning streak

Post by LondonNewsTrader »

Winning streaks are quieter killers than losing ones on a news desk.

After four clean London sessions I caught myself shortening the blackout into US CPI by five minutes "because things were flowing". The print was in line; the first spike still ran my stop on a ticket I should not have had on. The streak had not improved my read. It had just made the stand-aside rule feel optional.

Process I use now after three green days that included at least one news-adjacent scalp:

- Blackout windows go back to the written maximum, not the shortened version I drift toward when confident.
- Size on the first post-release setup stays at the base unit, even if the week is green.
- I re-read the night-before sheet out loud once before London. Sounds silly. Catches the casual edits.

I still take A+ continuation trades when the map says the event is second-tier and the setup was written before the release. The streak does not ban trading. It bans improvisation. The news process after a winning streak is really a confidence tax: you pay it in slightly slower timing and slightly smaller size so the calendar, not the P&L, stays in charge.

Shortening the blackout by five minutes is exactly how I burned a clean week once. Four green London sessions, CPI in line, and I had a ticket on three minutes early because the streak made the wait feel optional. The first spike still took the stop.

Putting blackout windows back to the written maximum after three green days is the right tax. I go one step further: the first post-release setup that week is half size even when it is an A+ continuation I wrote the night before. The streak does not get to negotiate size.

Reading the night-before sheet out loud sounds silly until you catch yourself mid-sentence adding a casual edit that was never on the paper. I do it standing up, away from the mouse, so the edit cannot become an order in the same breath.

I still take second-tier continuations when the map says so. The streak only bans the improvised early entry and the sized-up first ticket. Calendar stays in charge, P&L does not.

Do you log the shortened blackouts as rule breaks even when the trade wins? I started tagging them that way, and the count was higher than I wanted to admit.

LondonNewsTrader, the confidence tax I add now is a streak counter on the night sheet itself. After three green days that included a news-adjacent scalp, I write STREAK TAX in red at the top before I sleep, so the morning me cannot pretend the week is normal.

Blackout goes back to the written maximum, and the first post-release ticket that week is half size. What changed is I also forbid any edit to the blackout start time during the tax window, even a one-minute nudge that feels harmless.

I log shortened blackouts as rule breaks when they win. The tag count dropped once the red STREAK TAX line was on the paper, which tells me the problem was visibility, not character.

Second-tier continuations written the night before are still allowed at base size after the first taxed ticket. Improvised early entries stay banned until the counter resets on a flat or red day.

I reset the three-day count on any red day, not only on a news process break. Curious whether you tie the reset to P and L or to a journal tag only.
