Phone in another room until London close

Sounds petty. It is not. Half my mid-morning mistakes were not from the chart — they were from a headline ping, a chat “did you see that spike?”, or scrolling while in a live scalp. Attention leaks show up as late entries and early panic exits.

My house rule on desk days:

• Phone charges in the kitchen from London open until I am flat and done
• Family emergency = landline / agreed contact path, not Telegram noise
• Economic calendar is on the trading screen, refreshed before the session — not via phone alerts mid-trade

First week felt odd. By week three, fewer FOMO fades and cleaner session ends. I still check news — I just do it on purpose between trades, not while managing risk.

Is this overkill for home traders, or does anyone else physically separate the distraction device? What is your version of the same idea?

Not overkill. One practical catch: if the broker or prop login uses app-based two-factor authentication, the phone in the kitchen becomes a problem the first time the platform disconnects mid-morning. I moved the authenticator to an old phone that has nothing else on it and stays on the desk. That kept the security and removed the messaging.
