Gold scalping without gambling the daily loss limit

Gold without gambling the daily loss limit

XAUUSD will happily take your daily risk in two slipped stops if you size like a major. My desk rule is blunt: gold gets its own risk envelope, not the leftover of the EURUSD plan after a green morning.

In practice that looks like this:
  • Daily loss limit is set in cash before the session; gold’s share is capped (for me, typically a third of that envelope at most).
  • If the first gold scalp is a full stop, I do not “earn it back” on the next spike. I either cut size sharply or park gold for the day.
  • News windows on US data are flat on gold unless I am already in a planned trade with a hard time stop written before the release.
Volatility is not permission. It is a sizing problem. Treat gold like a different product and the daily limit stops feeling like a suggestion you can renegotiate mid-spike. Majors can still run under their own smaller ticket while gold is in the penalty box.

How do you split daily risk between gold and majors so one wild M1 candle cannot end the week?

I split it by stops, not by cash share. Gold gets two full stops per day. After the second, gold is done and whatever remains of the daily limit belongs to the majors or to nobody. A third of the envelope sounds similar, but a cash share lets you take four small gold losses in a row, and that sequence is the tilt pattern.

The other adjustment is to size gold on the stop plus an expected slip, not the stop alone. If my stop is $2.00 and slipped gold stops on my fills average about 30 to 40 cents on busy mornings, I size as if the stop were $2.40. It costs a little size on quiet days and stops the daily limit being breached by a stop that technically "held".
