Cross-asset desk: when an SPX dump overrides EUR technicals.
Some mornings EURUSD looks textbook at a level, then equity futures gap risk-off and the euro trade becomes a beta bet I never intended. I keep a simple override: if index futures are in a violent dump/rally during my entry window, FX technicals need extra confirmation or I stand aside.
Not predicting equities. Just refusing to ignore them when they are the loudest instrument in the room. Same for sudden yield spikes on a quiet EUR chart.
Checklist line: "cross-asset veto?" yes/no before click. If yes, size down or pass. Pride in a pure FX read is not a P&L strategy.
What cross-asset vetoes have saved you -- and which ones made you over-filter?
The veto is temporary. When equities stabilise and spreads normalise, EUR levels can matter again. The point is sequencing: do not marry a micro technical while the macro tape is throwing furniture. You can always come back twenty minutes later with a clear head.
