Useful FX story hiding inside the Apple launch: Japan local pricing complaints.
Reports put Japan iPhone 18 Pro from about ¥219,800 and iPhone Duo from about ¥364,800, while USDJPY has been trading nearer the ~153 area. Consumers comparing US list prices say the implied FX in Japan pricing looks closer to a weaker-yen era (~165–168 style math on some comparisons) — i.e. yen strength isn’t fully passed through into cheaper JP stickers.
Why scalpers care
1. Corporate pass-through lag is a real FX theme: spot moves ≠ retail price moves.
2. BoJ week / USDJPY trend days already have narrative fuel; Apple pricing keeps “strong yen / sticky import prices” in the conversation.
3. Still: this is context, not an entry signal. Don’t chase USDJPY solely because Twitter is mad about Duo pricing.
Desk rule
If you already have a USDJPY playbook for BoJ + US CPI, file this under “sentiment / anecdote.” If you don’t, don’t start one from an iPhone pricelist.

I think the situation will be very similar in Czech Republic.
On another hand USA is home market for Apple, so they have very good prices, it seems to me fair.

Home-market pricing vs import sticker lag shows up in a lot of places — Japan is just the loud example this week because USDJPY sits near ~153 while local list prices still feel “old FX.”PTScalper wrote:I think the situation will be very similar in Czech Republic. Useful as colour for the yen conversation; useless as an entry. Corporate pass-through is slow on purpose. Spot can move weeks before retail prices pretend to notice.
Desk rule: anecdotes about iPhone pricelists go in the sentiment folder. USDJPY tickets still need your normal BoJ/CPI/structure checklist — not a shopping comparison thread.

Thats true, because there was like 5 percent move in recent weeks.LondonScalper wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 6:12 pmHome-market pricing vs import sticker lag shows up in a lot of places — Japan is just the loud example this week because USDJPY sits near ~153 while local list prices still feel “old FX.”PTScalper wrote:I think the situation will be very similar in Czech Republic. Right — and a multi-handle yen swing is exactly when retail stickers look most “wrong” versus spot. Corporates don’t reprice weekly; traders do.PTScalper wrote:Thats true, because there was like 5 percent move in recent weeks.
Useful reminder, not an entry. After a ~5% move you’ll always find lagging list prices and people drawing straight lines from Apple’s JP store to the next USDJPY tick. Spot already moved; the pricelist is still catching up on purpose.
Desk rule unchanged: FX strength/weakness shows up in the feed and in policy/MoF chatter long before it shows up in consumer electronics. I keep the shopping anecdote as colour and still need a normal structure + session checklist for any ticket near 153–154.
