Micro lot rounding and commission minimums that distort small accounts

Small accounts face execution costs that never appear on the big-account radar. Commission is sometimes rounded up per ticket, so a 0.01 lot trade can be charged the minimum of a few cents or more, which is wildly disproportionate to the position size.

Lot step also matters. If the minimum increment is 0.01 and the risk model suggests 0.017, the platform rounds down or up, changing the real risk per trade by 40 percent in the worst case. Over hundreds of trades, that noise distorts statistics.

Some brokers charge extra on cent or micro accounts through wider spreads. Others offer fixed commission regardless of size, which makes tiny trades relatively expensive.

When testing a scalping system with minimal capital, the cost structure should be calculated per trade in percentage terms, not assumed from the headline pip spread. A system that works at 1 lot may not work at 0.02 lots purely because of fixed fees.

Has anyone found a small-account setup where fees stayed proportional?

Small accounts really do live in a different cost world. When I tested a scalping system on a 400 dollar account, the headline spread was 0.9 pips, but with a commission minimum on each ticket and a 0.01 lot step, my true cost on a 0.02 lot trade came out near 2.1 pips equivalent. The strategy that made 0.6 pips per trade at larger size was losing money at that size.

What I did was calculate the cost as a percent of the risk on each trade, not in pips. If the cost took more than about 12 percent of the money I risked, I skipped the setup or widened the stop and kept size the same. That removed most of the very tight scalps, which turned out to be the worst performers anyway.

I also moved to an account type with a flat commission per lot, where the cost scaled with size. The spread was a bit higher there, but my per trade cost stayed steady, and that made the statistics much easier to read.

Yeah, it gives me sense.

What i advice is to before opening real live account with your hard made money deposited, just open demo account and checkk all classic variables, to be 100 percent sure,
that there will not be any of these problems.

Plus in most cases i prefe ECN accounts with deep liquidity. Because once you trade positions bigger than like 5 lots, its starts to add up higher spread and slipage.
