Cloud-hosted EAs and the single point of failure

Running an EA on a VPS gives reliability but does not remove all risks. The VPS provider can have outages, the hosted terminal may crash, or the connection between the VPS and the broker may degrade. Without monitoring, the problem might go unnoticed for hours.

A common safeguard is a heartbeat: the EA writes a timestamp to a file or sends a small message to an external service at regular intervals. If the heartbeat stops, an alert goes to the trader's phone.

Server-side stops are also essential. If the EA dies with positions open, the stops placed on the broker's server remain active.

Redundancy can go further. Some traders run a secondary monitoring script on a different machine that checks account status through the broker's API or the mobile platform and sends alerts when conditions are abnormal, such as unexpected positions or equity drops.

The more critical the system, the more layers of oversight it deserves.
