Keeping size steady through a run of winners

Losing streaks get a lot of attention. Winning streaks can be just as risky, because they encourage bigger size and lower standards.

Common signs:
  • Taking setups that don't meet all rules, because "it's working today".
  • Increasing size after a few wins.
  • Trading longer than planned.
A plan for streaks:
  • Size changes only on a schedule, for example monthly, based on account balance.
  • A daily profit target that ends the session, if it fits your style.
  • Same checklist for every trade, no exceptions.
How to check whether it's a problem: compare trades taken after three wins in a row with others. If they're worse, the streak is changing your behaviour.

A hypothetical example: a trader who suddenly trades twice as large after three wins and then has an ordinary loss loses the profit of two normal wins in one trade.

The scheduled approach has another benefit: it removes the question of size from the trading day entirely, so attention stays on setups rather than on the balance.

What do you do after several wins in a row?
