Multiple timeframe analysis: how many timeframes are enough?

Many traders analyse several timeframes, such as daily for direction, hourly for structure and fifteen-minute for entry. Adding more timeframes can give more context but also more conflicting signals.
A practical rule some use is three timeframes, each about four to six times the next. More than that tends to produce a situation where some timeframe always disagrees, leading to hesitation.
A method to evaluate: take a strategy that uses one timeframe and add a higher timeframe filter, such as only trading in the direction of the daily trend. Compare results. Then add a third and see whether further improvement appears or results stay similar.
A worked example: an hourly breakout strategy may improve with a daily trend filter, but adding a weekly filter may simply reduce the number of trades without improving quality.
The aim is clarity rather than completeness.
How many timeframes do you use, and in what roles?
