How often should you change brokers?

Broker changes often happen after a bad experience rather than as a planned decision. A set of triggers decided in advance makes the choice less emotional.
Reasonable triggers for a change:
The hidden cost of moving: new platform settings, new data for your notes, a new spread profile to learn. Expect a couple of weeks of lower-quality trading after each switch while you adapt. That cost should be weighed against the savings.
A middle path is a scheduled review, say every six months: compare your all-in cost per trade, withdrawal times and any rule changes against one or two alternatives on demo or small live accounts. If nothing has broken and the numbers are close, stay.
Do you stay loyal unless something breaks, or review your broker on a schedule?
Reasonable triggers for a change:
- Withdrawals getting slower without explanation.
- Trading conditions changed by email with short notice.
- Average cost per trade rising for several months in a row in your own log.
- Regulatory changes affecting the entity you're with.
