A way to organise them:
- President and chief economist: mark every speech, since they often signal policy.
- Other Executive Board members: mark speeches on monetary policy, ignore others.
- National central bank governors: mark the ones from the larger countries, especially in the weeks before a meeting.
- During the quiet period before meetings, speeches stop, which can make other news more important.
Why it matters for scalping: a comment that changes rate expectations can move EURUSD by tens of pips in minutes, with wide spreads.
Tip: many speeches come with a published text at the start. The headlines appear within seconds, so price moves before you can read.
A short note after each marked speech, whether it moved price and how far, builds a useful record of which speakers matter.
