Does a 20 ms latency cut change EURUSD M1 results? A test design

Switching from a home line to a VPS hosted near the broker's server is the classic latency upgrade. Whether it changes results for an M1 EURUSD scalper is testable, and the answer is often smaller than expected.

A clean comparison:
  • Run the same rules from both locations for the same weeks, ideally with a copier so entries are simultaneous.
  • Log ping to the trade server, request-to-fill time from the Journal, and slippage per fill against the requested price.
  • Split results by hour, because the open and data minutes are where latency could matter.
What to look at: average slippage per trade in pips, and the share of fills with any slippage at all. If 25 ms versus 2 ms produces no measurable difference outside the first minutes of London, the upgrade is mostly about reliability, not speed.

A worked example of scale: if latency costs 0.05 pips per trade on average, that's $0.50 per lot. On 300 lots a month, $150, which can be more or less than a VPS costs. The number decides it, not the feeling of speed.

Has anyone run both setups side by side and kept the logs?
