European bank holidays and quiet EUR mornings

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Not all of Europe has the same holidays. When Germany or France is closed but London is open, EURUSD can be quieter than usual.

What to expect:
  • Smaller London morning ranges on EURUSD.
  • Possibly wider spreads at the open.
  • Sterling pairs less affected, since UK is open.
Common examples: Whit Monday, Ascension Day and German Unity Day (3 October). Some are regional holidays in Germany, which have smaller effects.

A plan for those days:
  • Reduce targets on EURUSD, or switch to GBPUSD.
  • Avoid breakout strategies that need volume.
  • Add these dates when you set up your yearly calendar.
How to check whether it matters for your strategy: compare range and results on those days with normal days. There aren't many each year, so be careful with conclusions.

Regional holidays are easy to miss, so check a full list of German and French public holidays rather than relying on memory.
