Caffeine and the scalper's pulse

Coffee sharpens focus and speeds reactions up to a point. Past that point, it increases jitter, impatience, and the urge to act. For a scalper, the line between alert and wired is thin.

Overcaffeinated trading looks like rapid entries, early exits, and tight, fidgety management. Heart rate rises, and every tick feels more significant. Decisions come faster, but not better.

The effect also depends on timing. A cup an hour before the London open might help. A third cup halfway through the session can be a problem. And the crash afterward, when the effect fades, can coincide with the part of the session where discipline matters most.

A few traders track it: note what was consumed and when, then compare it with results. A personal pattern often emerges. Some find that one coffee at a fixed time works, and more hurts. Others do better with none.

Hydration, food, and regular meals have a quieter but real impact on stamina. Blood sugar swings produce mood swings, and those show up in trade decisions.

Different people respond differently, and genetics play a role in how quickly caffeine is cleared. The only way to find out is to experiment with consistent amounts and timing, and watch both results and subjective feelings. A week of tracking is usually enough to show a pattern.

How much caffeine is the sweet spot, and is there a visible dip in results when the limit is crossed?
