Forum fever: when someone else's trade lights up the screen

A post appears in the chat: a screenshot of a 30 pip win on GBPJPY. Fifteen reactions follow. Within a minute, the urge to look at GBPJPY, a pair not usually traded, shows up.

Social proof is powerful. A winning screenshot suggests a setup that was missed, a market that's moving, an opportunity running. The reasoning part of the brain says it's already over. The reactive part says to hurry.

The usual result is an entry late in the move, on a pair with a wide spread, outside the normal plan. The screenshot showed the outcome, not the entry's context, the risk taken, or the losers around it.

Chat rooms select for wins. Losers don't post screenshots. The picture of the market from a chat is biased toward what worked.

Another effect is the pressure to produce similar results. Watching others report big wins creates a standard that feels like falling behind.

Muting the chat during the trading hours and reading it afterward turns the same information from a trigger into a review.

Whose screenshot triggered the last impulsive trade, and how did it end?
