The ECB fix at 2:15pm CET

The ECB publishes euro reference rates every afternoon at 2:15pm Frankfurt time. It's not widely traded in the retail community, but it matters to certain flows. Corporates and fund managers can use it as a benchmark.

Around the time, a small burst of volatility sometimes appears in EUR pairs. EURUSD might jump a pip or two, then settle. The effect is modest, and it's easily buried in the noise of the London afternoon.

The reason to know about it is to avoid confusing it with something else. A small unexplained move at that hour isn't a fresh trend. It's the benchmark flow.

Another benefit: it helps explain why certain minutes on the clock show consistent behavior. Scalpers who have studied tick data over several months notice that some minutes have higher volatility than their neighbors, almost every day.

The list of recurring times includes the Tokyo fix, the ECB rate, the 10am New York option cut, and the 4pm London fix. Marking them on the chart as a vertical line gives a map of when the odd things happen.

Which recurring timestamps show up as volatile minutes in tick history for the pairs traded here?
