Survivorship bias in shared trading results

Forums and social feeds are full of screenshots of winning streaks. They show the people who made money and the days that went well. They hide those who lost and the weeks that did not.

A scalping method that looks great in a thread may have been tried by hundreds, with only the winners posting. The method may work, or it may be luck from a large sample.

Even honest posters suffer from selective memory. The best month gets shared. The worst gets forgotten.

Questions that cut through the bias: how many trades, over what period, with what costs, in which market conditions, and whether results are from a live account or a demo. Verified statements from a broker are more convincing than screenshots.

Also worth asking is how the poster's method fared after the period shown.

None of this means ignoring the community. It means treating claims as hypotheses to be tested, not as facts.

What evidence is required before a method posted online gets tested seriously?
