Chart lag: the screen is always a little behind
Between a price update arriving and a trader seeing it, there are several steps: network, platform processing, rendering, and the monitor's refresh. Each adds a few milliseconds.
On a standard 60 Hz monitor, the screen only updates every 16.7 milliseconds. A fast tick can arrive and be replaced before it is ever drawn. A 144 Hz screen halves that gap.
The effect is small, but scalpers often work on a one or two pip scale where tens of milliseconds can matter. The picture on the screen is already history.
Other sources of lag include heavy chart templates with many objects, graphics driver issues, and platforms running in the background with reduced priority.
A practical test: run a simple chart with no indicators and compare its responsiveness to the usual workspace. If the difference is noticeable, the extra items are costing speed.
A practical step is turning off smooth animations and visual effects in the operating system, and updating graphics drivers. Small as they sound, these changes can reduce the time between a price change and its appearance on screen.
Has trimming the chart setup ever made the platform feel faster?
