Range bars and Renko for short-term trading

Range bars and Renko charts ignore time. A new bar forms only after price moves a set distance, so quiet periods produce nothing and fast periods produce many bars.

For scalpers, that can clean up the picture. Noise below the bar size disappears, and trends look smooth. Support and resistance become clearer.

The drawbacks are real. Bar construction depends on the starting price, so two charts of the same pair can look different. Historical data may be reconstructed from lower timeframe bars, which adds approximation.

Signals can also repaint on some implementations, particularly Renko variants with reversal rules.

Timing is lost, too. There is no way to tell from the chart how long a bar took to form, which matters in scalping.

A cautious approach is using them as a complement to time charts, for trend and structure, and keeping execution decisions on a chart with real timestamps.

Has either bar type improved results, and how were the repainting concerns checked?
