The 3am SEK trade

It was supposed to be a quick one. USDSEK, a Tuesday night, the chart looking neat, a small range, nothing on the calendar. A trader sees a clean bounce off the bottom of the range and takes a long with a 4 pip stop. The spread says 9 pips, which seems fine given the target of 20.

The price drifts for ten minutes. Then a quote jumps by 8 pips. No trade in between, no warning. The stop is triggered at the next price, 11 pips from entry.

The trader tries again, with a wider stop. Same pair, same hour. This time the price sits there for 40 minutes and goes nowhere, and the swap and spread eat more than the target.

The lesson isn't about the pair. It's that low-liquidity hours turn a decent setup into a lottery, and the lottery has a house edge made of spread.

Can a thin-hour trade on a minor or exotic pair ever work out, or is it always tuition?
