After a quick win, the temptation to keep going

A clean 4 pip winner in the first minutes of the session feels like confirmation. Size creeps up, selectivity drops, and the next three trades are sloppy.

Winning triggers its own bias. Confidence rises, the sense of risk falls, and the brain treats the next trade as likely to win too. Overtrading follows, and the early gain bleeds away.

The pattern often shows up in the journal as a cluster of mediocre trades right after a big winner. The setup quality in those entries is visibly worse than usual.

A countermeasure is treating a winning trade the same as a losing one: pause, reset, and wait for the next valid setup. The rules do not bend because the account is up.

Some traders set a daily profit target and stop when it is hit. Others use a softer rule, such as reducing size after a certain gain. Both aim at the same issue: protecting a good day from its own success.
