Too many charts open and the platform starts to lag

Twenty charts, six indicators each, three timeframes per pair. It looks impressive and feels thorough. It also puts a heavy load on the platform, especially on MT4 which uses a single thread for much of its processing.
When the load builds, tick handling falls behind. The price shown on screen is a fraction of a second old, and clicks take a moment longer to register. During quiet periods nobody notices. In a news spike, it adds up to slippage.
A practical test is checking CPU usage during a fast market. If the platform's process sits near one full core, it is the bottleneck.
Trimming helps. Close charts that are not being watched, remove indicators that repaint or recalculate heavily, and avoid several expert advisors scanning the same data.
Another option is running separate platform instances for separate tasks, one for execution and one for analysis, so the execution window never competes with the heavy charts.
How many charts are open during a typical session, and has trimming them ever improved the feel of the platform?
