Splitting activity between two brokers: resilience at a price

Using two brokers sounds sensible. If one has a problem, the other still works. The costs and complications deserve a look.

Benefits include redundancy during outages, a way to compare execution quality directly, and access to different pricing or instruments. A trader can run the same system on both and see which one fills better.

Costs include split capital, which reduces the leverage and flexibility of each account, plus duplicated monitoring and bookkeeping. Prices differ slightly, so signals from one feed may not match the other.

There's also the matter of position management. A hedge across brokers during an emergency only works if both accounts are funded and accessible.

A practical compromise is a main account for trading and a smaller secondary for backup and benchmarking. Running small identical orders on both occasionally measures the gap in execution.

The comparison itself often reveals more about a broker than any review.
