Screenshots versus replay: a better way to review sessions

Static screenshots capture a moment. They don't show how a trade unfolded, how fast things happened, or what the tick activity looked like.

Screen recording software solves some of that. Recording the session on video allows a review of the real flow of decisions, including hesitation, misclicks and distractions.

An alternative is a replay tool that reconstructs the market from tick data, letting the trader step through the session at any speed. Some platforms include one, and third-party options exist.

Reviewing with replay reveals things that candles hide, like the sequence of events within a bar, the spread at the moment of entry, and the speed of the move.

Storage can be an issue. Video files are large. Compressing, keeping only the sessions with notable trades, and deleting the rest manages it.

Watching a losing session at double speed is a humbling and instructive exercise. Patterns of behaviour become obvious.
