Unscheduled headlines and the moves with no calendar entry

Economic calendars cover scheduled events. Markets also react to surprises, such as political statements, geopolitical incidents, central bank leaks and unexpected policy changes.

These events arrive without warning. Price can move 30 pips in seconds, spreads widen, and liquidity evaporates. There's nothing to prepare for specifically, only general safeguards.

Useful measures include sizing positions so that a sudden adverse move isn't damaging, avoiding the habit of holding trades for long without stops, and keeping an eye on a news feed during sessions.

Some traders use squawk services or alert tools that deliver headlines in real time. Others rely on social media accounts of reliable journalists. Speed matters, but so does accuracy, since false reports are common.

Reacting to headlines is hard. By the time a retail trader reads and acts, algorithms have already moved price. The wise response is often to protect existing positions and stay out until things calm down.
