Staring at fast-moving prices for hours takes a toll that rarely appears in strategy discussions. Attention fades, reaction time lengthens, and mistakes creep in.

Research on sustained attention suggests performance drops noticeably after about 20 to 30 minutes of intense focus. Scalpers often push through for three or four hours without a real break.

Signs include missing signals that would have been obvious earlier, hesitating on entries, and making sloppy mistakes like wrong lot sizes.

Simple structure helps. Short breaks every hour, looking away from the screen, standing up and moving. Splitting the day into focused blocks with real pauses can raise the quality of decisions and reduce the number of trades taken out of boredom.

Lighting and screen setup also matter. Glare and eye strain add fatigue over time.

Treating attention as a limited resource, like margin, changes how a session is planned. When the tank is empty, the right move is to stop.

How long can you trade before the quality of decisions drops?
