Cross pairs and the hidden conversion cost for the account currency

Trading EURGBP on a dollar account means profits and losses are calculated in pounds, then converted into dollars. That conversion carries its own cost, and it's rarely discussed.

Brokers typically convert at the prevailing rate, sometimes with a small markup. On a single trade, the effect is tiny. Across hundreds of trades, it's a measurable drag.

There's also a subtler issue. The pip value of a cross pair shifts with the rate of the conversion pair. A fixed lot size gives a different dollar risk per pip over time, so risk calculations based on a stale pip value drift.

Good platforms update pip value dynamically. Spreadsheets and manual calculations often don't.

A practical approach is to recompute the pip value regularly, or let the position size calculator pull it live. For frequent scalping, small errors multiply.

Does anyone check how their broker converts profit into the account currency?
