Comparing with other traders: the screenshot trap

Forums and social media are full of screenshots of big winning days. Rarely do they show the losses, the costs, or the length of time it took to get there. The comparison with them creates pressure and distorts expectations.

Seeing others with large sizes and quick gains can push a trader to raise risk or switch strategies prematurely. The comparison is unfair, since the sample is selected for success.

A useful habit is to compare only with one's own plan and statistics. The relevant question is whether the system performs within the expected range, not whether someone else posted a bigger number.

When learning from others, focus on process: how they test, how they manage risk, how they handle losses. Ignore claims of performance without verifiable records.

Limiting time on social platforms during the trading session also reduces the pull.

The most reliable path is steady execution of a tested approach, measured against honest benchmarks.

How has exposure to other traders' results affected decisions, and what limits are in place?
