Mid-week breaks and session gaps inside broker schedules

Forex is described as 24 hours, but individual brokers have short maintenance pauses and symbol-specific breaks. A few minutes of no trading on certain instruments around rollover is common. Some brokers also close metals, indices, and exotic pairs on a different schedule from the majors.

Scalpers who run automated systems across many symbols can hit these breaks unexpectedly. Orders are rejected, positions cannot be closed, and the EA's error handling may spiral.

The symbol specifications list sessions. Compare them across all symbols the system trades, and note overlaps with typical high-risk times.

Special days create changes. Holidays bring shortened sessions, and brokers announce changes via email or on their website. Missing a notice can leave a position stuck with no exit during a closure.

Build a calendar of session exceptions for the year and import it into the EA's schedule logic. If a position must be held through a break, make sure stops are in place beforehand.

When did the broker's trading hours last differ from the usual schedule without much warning?
