Bonus and credit conditions that quietly restrict scalpers

Welcome bonuses and credit offers look generous. Attached to them are often conditions that affect scalping: minimum trade durations, maximum lots per trade, bans on certain strategies, or turnover requirements before withdrawal.

Credit is typically not withdrawable and may be removed if the account is closed or if equity falls below a certain level. Profits made with bonus funds may be forfeited if the broker decides the trading violated the terms.

For scalpers, the risk lies in vague clauses such as "abusive trading" or "exploiting the bonus". A high volume of short trades can be interpreted as meeting the volume requirement, yet some brokers argue it contravenes the intent.

If the account carries bonus funds, read the terms in full and ask for written clarification on scalping. Better still, decline the bonus. The cost of the restrictions often exceeds the value of the credit.

At minimum, keep records of the terms at the time of acceptance, since they can change.

Has a bonus ever restricted the trading style or created problems at withdrawal time?
