Error 136 "off quotes" is not the same as a requote

On MT4, error 136 appears when the server has no price to offer for the requested symbol at that instant. It reads like a requote, but the cause is different. A requote means a price exists and moved. Off quotes means the broker's pricing engine is not publishing a tradable quote at all.

It tends to cluster around rollover, right after news releases, and during feed reconnects. Some servers also throw it when the pricing stream for one symbol stalls while others keep flowing.

For an EA, the usual mistake is retrying instantly in a loop. During a genuine quote outage, hundreds of retries achieve nothing and can trip rate limits. A short pause of a second or two, followed by a fresh price check, works far better.

Counting these errors per hour in the log is revealing. A burst at the same minute every day points to a scheduled liquidity gap. Random bursts point to feed trouble on the broker side.
