What the chart does when one liquidity provider drops out

Quiet London morning, EUR/GBP sitting in a narrow range, and then the spread jumps from nearly nothing to three times normal while price barely changes. A few seconds later, the best bid steps down two tenths of a pip and the ask stays put. Nothing was announced and no news hit.

One plausible explanation is that a liquidity provider that had been quoting the tightest side stopped streaming, whether from a risk limit, a technical issue, or a pause around its own hedging. The aggregator then falls back to the next-best quotes. The chart shows a small gap or a spread blip with no real trading behind it.

For a scalper holding a position, this matters in odd ways. A stop on the bid side can trigger from the drop in the best quote even though no trade printed at that price. Candles on a bid-based chart show a small wick that an ask-based chart does not.

It usually fixes itself within seconds as the provider returns or others fill the gap.

Has anyone had a stop clipped by a spread blip like this, and does the broker ever acknowledge the cause?
