Record keeping at scalping frequency is a project, not a habit

A scalper with 40 trades a day generates around 10,000 a year. Platform history, statements and a journal will all hold slightly different versions of the truth.

Several questions need answers at some point: for tax reporting, for a dispute with a broker, for a review of performance, or for a prop firm audit. A tidy record answers them in minutes. A messy one costs weeks.

A workable system exports the full trade history from the platform regularly, weekly at least, and stores it as read-only files with the date in the name. The monthly statement from the broker is saved alongside it. Deposits and withdrawals are logged separately with confirmations.

Platform history can be limited. Some platforms only show the last few months, and older data disappears or becomes hard to retrieve.

A script that merges exports into one table, converts all times to a single time zone and flags discrepancies from statements saves a lot of grief.

Tax rules for forex vary by country and by how profits are classified, so the specific treatment is a question for a local accountant. Whatever the rules, having complete records is the starting point.

What system is used to keep trade records, and has it ever been put to the test?
