Negative balance protection has more fine print than the banner suggests

The banner says you cannot lose more than you deposit. The terms underneath are worth reading, because scalpers are the ones most exposed to the situations where it matters: news gaps, thin liquidity and stops filled far from their level.
Points that vary across brokers and jurisdictions, so verify rather than assume:
- Whether it applies to every client or only to those classified as retail. Professional classification, often chosen for higher leverage, can remove it.
- Whether it is automatic or has to be requested after the account goes negative.
- Whether it covers each account separately or the client as a whole, which matters if several accounts sit under one profile.
- Whether bonuses, credits or promotional funds are clawed back first, leaving less real balance than expected.
- Which leverage tiers qualify, since some regimes tie it to the account type.
It also does nothing to the loss itself. A fill 40 pips beyond the stop on a spike still wipes the balance, and protection only wipes the debt left over. For a scalper, the practical protection is size small enough that a gap through the stop is survivable on its own.
Treat it as a backstop, not a risk plan.
Has anyone actually had a negative balance reset, and how did the broker handle the process?
