Checklist or superstition: how to tell which rituals earn their place

Plenty of scalpers have routines. Same mug, same playlist, same lucky pair on Mondays. Some of those rituals are harmless, but the line to watch is when a ritual starts to carry weight in the decision itself: no trading without the lucky chart layout, or skipping a valid setup because the morning did not "feel right".

A useful ritual does one thing: it makes a required check happen. A pre-trade checklist is the clearest example, and the best ones are short, maybe five items:

- spread within normal range
- no high-impact news in the next fifteen minutes
- setup matches the written definition
- stop and target placed before size is confirmed
- session loss limit not yet reached

That is a list of facts, each answerable with yes or no in a few seconds. A ritual about feelings, numbers or colours does not check anything, so it earns nothing.

A test: remove one ritual for a week and see whether any measurable behaviour changes. If the checklist items disappear and mistakes rise, keep them. If dropping the lucky routine changes nothing, it was just habit, and that is fine as long as it is not mistaken for edge.

Which pre-trade check has caught the most mistakes for you?
