Rate decision statement first, press conference later: two different trades

A central bank decision is often two events pretending to be one. The statement lands at a set time and gets read by machines in the first second. Thirty to forty-five minutes later, the press conference starts, and it can push price in the opposite direction if the tone or hints about the next meeting differ from the text.
The statement trade is brutal: wide spread, empty book, slippage. The press conference trade is another animal. Spreads are mostly normal by then, so fills are cleaner, but direction is far more random because every answer is a headline. A single phrase can move 10 pips in a few seconds, and the next phrase can undo it.
Treating both as one window leads to bad decisions, like staying flat through the whole thing or, worse, being long into the conference with the stop still sitting from the statement.
A better way is to run them as separate sessions with separate rules. After the statement spike, apply a cooldown. Before the conference, mark the levels that matter and decide in advance whether to trade it at all. Many traders find the first few minutes, when prepared remarks are read, carry more information than the Q&A that follows.
Do you trade the press conference at all, and has the opening remarks or the Q&A given the more reliable direction?
