The London 4pm fix can wreck a clean scalp setup

At 4pm London time, a benchmark window used by many funds and corporates to rebalance currency exposure produces a burst of two-way flow. Not every day is dramatic, but on month-end days in particular, price can move 10 to 20 pips in a few minutes with no news at all, then partly retrace.

For a scalper that matters in two ways. First, volatility spikes for a short time, so stops sized for the previous hour's range get tested. Second, the direction is hard to predict because it depends on rebalancing needs that are not visible on a chart. A trend that was working at 15:45 may stall or reverse right at the fix.

There is a pattern some scalpers use: avoid entries between 15:50 and 16:10 London time, and instead consider setups after the move settles, when the post-fix drift often resumes the earlier direction. That is a hypothesis to test, not a law.

Testing it is cheap. Mark 16:00 London on a history of 60 or 100 days, record the high-to-low range from 15:55 to 16:05, and compare with the average range of any other ten-minute window that hour. If the fix window stands out on your pair, the filter pays for itself.

Which pairs show a visible 4pm effect on your charts, and do you trade it or avoid it?
